The Board decided to extend the deadline for comments on the proposed IFRS for SMEs to 30 November 2007. The deadline for submitting field test results is also extended to 30 November 2007. The Board decided to extend the comment deadline primarily to allow entities participating in the field tests and those assisting such entities more time to prepare their comments on the exposure draft. Paragraph 15 of IAS 12 Income Taxes establishes a general principle that a deferred tax liability should be recognised for all taxable temporary differences. However, paragraph 15(a) provides a special exception from that general principle for the initial recognition of goodwill. As a result of that exception, a deferred tax liability is not recognised on initial recognition of goodwill.

At its meeting in October 2006, the Board directed the staff to prepare a pre-ballot draft of an Exposure Draft of an IFRS for SMEs. In early November, the staff sent the pre-ballot draft to the Board for written comments. (This draft is also publicly available to download on the IASB’s Website.)
