The IASC Foundation conference in Amsterdam on 25th and 26th of June was a huge success with 450 attendees from over 50 countries and over 30 participants attended the XBRL workshop.

SEC Roundtable on Interactive Data Webcast

A number of countries already require public companies to provide their financial reports in interactive data. Others, including the United States, are proposing to require it. Still others are currently considering it. The International Roundtable on Interactive Data for Public Financial Reporting organized by US SEC on 10th June considered these experiences by welcoming panelists from Canada, China, India, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain and the IASC Foundation. SEC Commissioner Chairman Christopher Cox opened the Roundtable with welcoming remarks, after which a panel discussion considered the XBRL-related topics.

The IASC Foundation publishes IFRS Taxonomy 2008

The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) Foundation today announced the release of the IFRS Taxonomy 2008.

 

The IFRS Taxonomy 2008 is a complete translation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) as published in the IFRS Bound Volume 2008 into XBRL, an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) that is used to communicate information between businesses. The taxonomy is published in the same languages as the IFRS Bound Volume 2008 and includes support material such as the Taxonomy Architecture Paper and the Taxonomy Extenders Guide.

Don't say ‘ It’s all politics’.  Instead, say ‘Timing is everything’.

 

In a recent survey, a majority of AICPA members said they believed it would take three to five years to prepare for IFRSs.  When XBRL was introduced about 10 years ago, few of its founders contemplated that XBRL, or Interactive Data as it had been renamed by US SEC Chairman Cox, would so soon become a de facto standard tool around the world for financial reporting.  Today, over 100 countries require or permit the use of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) and most are also adopting XBRL.

IFRS Taxonomy 2008 Architecture Release

The IASC Foundation XBRL Team is pleased to announce the release of the IFRS Taxonomy 2008 Architecture (exposure draft). The exposure draft discusses the changes from the previous International Financial Reporting Standards General Purpose (IFRS-GP) taxonomy regarding the use of dimensions, versioning, taxonomy modularisation, taxonomy framework and taxonomy extensions. This draft reflects discussions with IFRS Taxonomy users and the feedback provided for the IFRS Taxonomy Architecture discussion paper.

IFRS Taxonomy 2008 Style Guide Release

The IASC Foundation XBRL Team is pleased to announce the release of the Style Guide (Exposure Draft) for the IFRS Taxonomy 2008. The purpose of this document is to summarise information used when creating labels for the IFRS Taxonomy. The purpose is also to (a) provide style standards for those creating elements for inclusion in the taxonomy, (b) serve as a reference for users and (c) otherwise contribute to consistency within the IFRS Taxonomy.
