XBRL Lab: IFRS-GP Reference Refinement Project, Phase I Release
31 May 2007
The IASC Foundation XBRL Team is pleased to announce the release of its latest project - phase one of our taxonomy reference refinement project.
Background
This entire research project will focus on weaknesses of current reference label linkbase modeling approaches, introduce new concepts for reference linkbase modeling and enable automated connection with the electronic version of the IFRS Bound volume.
The team has been working on this first phase reference refinement project for some time, with development led by Daniel Gloeckner and pioneered by Maciej Piechocki together with former intern, Harald Schmitt.
Project Phases
In this first phase we introduce a new approach for architecting the reference linkbase. The main objectives of this phase I project are to:
- Simplify the current reference linkbase
- Achieve interoperability between different software solutions on the market
- Reduce the size of the IFRS-GP reference linkbase file
- Enhance extensibility of the IFRS-GP taxonomy
The first phase has been completed and is available on our website. To view the project, click here.
Note also that work has already commenced on other phases of this project and these will be released as soon as they are completed. Our reference refinement project is divided into seven phases. To view a list to these phases, click here.
Application
The mechanism prototyped in the phase one project, if found to be acceptable by our users, is intended to be used in the building of our IFRS-GP taxonomy for 2008.
XBRL Research and Development at the IASC Foundation
This project is part of the research and development work undertaken by the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) Foundation XBRL Team. Our goal is to develop solutions which improve the application and use of the IFRS GP Taxonomy and to contribute this knowledge back into the XBRL International Consortium.
